What is piecework in construction?
Under a piecework arrangement, an individual or team receives an agreed amount for a measurable result, such as installing a defined quantity of material. The calculation must state the unit, scope, quality requirements and how changes or additional work are handled.
Advantages
Clear quantities can make productivity, costs and progress easier to compare. Employees may also benefit when efficient work leads to higher earnings.
Risks
Unclear measurement rules can cause disputes. Excessive time pressure can also affect safety or quality. Piecework must therefore be planned so that occupational safety, employment rules and the required workmanship are never compromised.
Before work starts, document the calculation basis, acceptance criteria and process for recording quantities. Actual results should be checked and approved transparently.
